Background: Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) is a promising process for bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass. High glucan loading for hydrolysis and fermentation is an efficient approach to reduce the capital costs for bio-based products production. The SSF of steam-exploded corn stover (SECS) for ethanol production at high glucan loading and high temperature was investigated in this study. Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation SSF is a process in which sugars from the liquefied substrates are saccharified and fermented in a single fermenter using enzyme and yeast.

This work evaluates the use of a novel bacterial laccase (MetZyme) for enhancing the hydrolysability and fermentability of steam-exploded wheat straw. Several yeast strains have been engineered to express different cellulases to achieve simultaneous saccharification and fermentation of lignocellulosic materials.

In the dry‐grind fuel ethanol industry, coproducts such as distillers' dried grains and carbon dioxide are obtained after liquefaction (conversion of starch to soluble form), saccharification (conversion of soluble starch to glucose), and fermentation (conversion of glucose to ethanol).

Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) by Clostridium acetobutyli-cum ATCC 824 was conducted to produce biobutanol from sago hampas. Sago ham-pas is a waste generated from the processing of sago starch. This waste is composed saccharification and fermentation (SSF) was introduced which involves co-culturing of an amylase producing organism and a fermenting organism in the same vessel [11]. These organisms would synergistically utilize the substrates for food and, in the process, yield ethanol [12], [13].

Saccharification and fermentation

Microbial saccharification of cassava waste and ethanol fermentation. Microbial saccharification and fermentation were carried out using S. diastaticus or the fungal isolates (isolated from cassava waste disposed soil) as described by Zabala et al., (1994). Erlenmeyer flasks (250 ml) containing 5 g cassava waste in 50 ml distilled

preparations were introduced into the market. There is also a progress in fermentation technology observed.

Several yeast strains have been engineered to express different cellulases to achieve simultaneous saccharification and fermentation of lignocellulosic materials. However, successes in these endeavors were modest, as demonstrated by the relatively low ethanol titers and the limited ability of the en … In recent years, only microbe based simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) has been evolved successfully as a starch based bio-ethanol production process while overcoming the problems associated with using harmful chemical and expensive enzymes. The bioconversion of cellulosic wastes into high-value bio-products by saccharification and fermentation processes is an important step that can reduce the environmental pollution caused by agricultural wastes.

Saccharification-Fermentation process was developed. Saccharification and fermentation are done simultaneously in order to decrease enzymatic end-product inhibition thus producing a better yield. Such process involves the use of bioreactor for controlling parameters like temperature and pH where enzymes can perform its best.

Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation Corncobs were used as the sole carbon source for fermentation with the addition of surfactants to confirm the role of surfactants in the fermentation of natural lignocellulose. The liquefied mash then goes into the saccharification and fermentation step.
